Artistic vision
Ombeline Chardes is a French conductor, composer and violinist based in Oslo. Her artistic practice is defined by a commitment to adventurous programming, musical discovery and the creation of compelling connections between performers, repertoire and audiences.
Composition
Chardes is an active composer. Her work explores the meeting points between classical music and contemporary practice, with compositions ranging from chamber music to works for larger ensembles. She is interested in melodies, polyrythmies and the possibilities created when distinct musical languages are brought into dialogue. One of her project is to integrqte music from other women composers and merge it into her own composition.
From performer to conductor
Originally trained as a violinist and composer in Paris, Chardes has developed a broad international musical experience encompassing orchestral, chamber and contemporary repertoire. Her perspective as a performer and composer informs an approach to conducting that combines music theory approach, attentive listening and a strong instinct for musical narrative.
Expanding the repertoire
At the centre of her artistic vision is a desire to expand the orchestral repertoire and bring overlooked voices into the concert hall. She is particularly committed to music by women composers, whose work remains outside the established canon. Her programmes seek to introduce these works in a interactive and pedagogical fashion, creating new perspectives for the audience.
Research and interpretation
Alongside her performance and conducting work, Chardes holds a Master's degree in Music Theory from the Norwegian Academy of Music. Her research into analytical approaches to string quartet rehearsal reflects a broader artistic interest in the relationship between musical structure, interpretation and performance.

Looking ahead
With nearly two decades of experience as a performer and educator, Chardes brings both musical authority and a collaborative sensibility to her work. Her long-term artistic ambition is to build an international conducting and composer’s career centred on distinctive repertoire, bold programming and the advocacy of composers whose music deserves a wider audience.
